Dear Letters Editor,
I could have been forgiven for sauntering into County Hall this week and thinking I'd walked into the incinerator, given the amount of hot air that was coming out of the building. It wasn't waste that was burning however, but rather the Council's ill-conceived plans to impose an incinerator on the people of Kings Lynn.
Last week the results of the Council's dodgy attempt to garner public support for the project, viaNorfolk's Town and Parish councils, were published. I was pleased to see they failed abysmally with just ten letters of support. Surely things couldn't get any worse for the Council, or could they? (EN Letters 23.8.11; "Boost recycling and re-use.")
The last few days have seen a litany of objections:
This is before I even venture into the realms of the flawed economics surrounding the project.
Before some other damning revelation comes out of the woodwork, NCC should face the music and pull the plug on this unwieldy, unnecessary and, most of all, unwanted project for the sake of everyone inNorfolk.
They should cut their losses now, by looking at more environmentally friendly alternative technologies, which won't pose a threat to public health, deal with the waste landfill problem and also produce energy for the National Grid.
Kr,
Tim
